Who we are

Textcut (“Textcut,” “we,” “us”) is a service that edits talking-head videos you send by text message and returns an edited video in the same thread. This Privacy Policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, how long we keep it, and the choices you have.

What this service does

You text a video to our number. We transcribe and edit it (for example: long pauses, repeated takes, and filler words) and burn captions based on the words detected in your audio. We send one edited video file back in the same conversation when the job finishes.

Information we process

Video and audio you send. The media file and the speech in it are processed so we can cut, caption, and return an edit.

Message and chat identifiers. We use the messaging thread and related delivery identifiers from our texting provider so we can reply in the same conversation and apply settings you ask for in that chat (for example caption size or which take to keep).

Commands and preferences you text. Phrases like caption style, pause tightness, name spelling, or “start over” may be stored on that chat so later videos match what you asked for.

Technical and operational logs. We may keep short-lived logs needed to run, debug, and secure the service (for example job status, error codes, or file size). We do not sell these logs.

Payment information. If you subscribe after the free first video, payment is handled by our payment processor. We do not store full card numbers on Textcut servers. The processor’s privacy terms also apply to billing data.

This website. The marketing site is static. It does not require an account. We do not use the homepage to collect an email for the free first video. Standard server or host logs (such as IP address and pages requested) may be created by whoever hosts the site.

How we use information

We use the information above to provide the edit you asked for, send the result back, remember chat-level settings you chose, process subscriptions, prevent abuse, improve reliability, and comply with law.

How long we keep video

Source video and working files used to produce your edit are deleted the next day. We do not operate a lasting personal video library. If you need a file removed sooner, text us from the same thread and say so; we will take reasonable steps within how the system is built.

Who we share with

We use service providers that help us operate Textcut, including cloud hosting for processing, object storage for short-lived files, our texting / messaging carrier, and a payment processor for paid plans. They only receive what they need to perform their role. We do not sell your personal information.

Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures appropriate to a small cloud service. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure. Keep your own device and messaging account secure.

Children

Textcut is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child sent us media, contact us and we will delete it when we can identify the relevant files.

Your choices

You can stop using the service at any time. You can text to change or clear chat settings (including starting over). For subscription changes or cancellation, follow the instructions we send in-thread or through the payment provider’s customer portal when that is how billing is managed.

International processing

Processing may occur on servers in the United States or other regions where our cloud providers operate. If you text us from another country, you understand your information may be processed outside your home country.

Changes

We may update this Privacy Policy. We will change the “Last updated” date above. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised policy for future use of the service.

Agreement

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of Textcut, including the texting number, the editing service, and the related website. By texting a video to Textcut or using the site, you agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the service.

The service

Textcut accepts a talking-head video by text, runs an automated edit, and returns one edited mp4 in the same thread when successful. Today’s edit may remove long pauses, drop repeated takes (defaulting to the last finished delivery unless you ask otherwise), remove filler-only spans, and burn captions from transcribed words. Framing and aspect ratio stay what you sent. Music, motion graphics, b-roll, and alternate aspect ratios are not included yet and may arrive later.

File size is limited by what can be delivered as a text and by our technical caps (about 100 MB on the current path). Very long or unusual files may fail or be refused.

Eligibility

You must be able to form a binding contract where you live. You must have the rights to the media you send. You are responsible for complying with messaging, privacy, and publicity laws that apply to your content.

Accounts and the thread

Textcut is used through your messaging conversation with our number. Chat-level settings (caption look, pause preference, name spellings, and similar) may persist on that thread until you change them or start over. You are responsible for anyone who has access to your phone or messaging account.

Pricing and payment

The first video is free. After that, Textcut is $9 per month unless we publish a different price. Taxes may apply. Paid access is billed through our payment processor. Fees are generally non-refundable except where required by law or where we expressly say otherwise. We may change pricing with notice in-thread or on the site; the new price applies to later billing periods.

Acceptable use

You may not use Textcut to send unlawful content; content you do not have rights to; malware; spam; or material that exploits minors. You may not attempt to break, overload, or reverse engineer the service beyond what the law allows for interoperability. We may refuse or delete jobs that violate these rules.

Your content and license

You keep ownership of your footage. You grant Textcut a limited license to host, process, transcribe, edit, and transmit your media solely to provide the service you requested and to operate and secure the product. Captions are generated from your audio; they may contain transcription errors.

Our rights

Textcut, the site design, and our software remain ours or our licensors’. These Terms do not transfer those rights to you.

Disclaimer

The service is provided “as is.” Automated edits can miss, cut too tight, mistime captions, or fail. We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability, perfect transcription, or that every video will process. To the fullest extent allowed by law, we disclaim warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent allowed by law, Textcut and its operators will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost data, or replacement costs, arising from your use of the service. Our total liability for any claim relating to Textcut will not exceed the greater of (a) the amounts you paid us for Textcut in the three months before the claim or (b) twenty-seven U.S. dollars. Some places do not allow certain limits; in those places our liability is limited to the maximum permitted.

Indemnity

You will defend and indemnify Textcut and its operators against claims arising from your content, your use of the service, or your breach of these Terms, except to the extent caused by our willful misconduct.

Suspension and termination

You may stop texting us at any time. We may suspend or end access if you break these Terms, if required by law, or if we shut down or redesign the product. Provisions that should survive (including ownership, disclaimers, limits of liability, and indemnity) survive termination.

Changes

We may update these Terms. We will revise the “Last updated” date. Continued use after an update means you accept the new Terms for later use. If a change is material and you have a paid plan, we will try to give reasonable notice in-thread or on the site.

Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, excluding its conflict-of-law rules. Courts in California will have exclusive jurisdiction over disputes, except that either party may seek injunctive relief in any court of competent jurisdiction for misuse of intellectual property or confidential information.
